Pricing & Costs

Rates start from $40–$60/day for a compact SUV like the Toyota RAV4 on self-drive. A 4×4 Land Cruiser with driver costs $120–$180/day. Long-term rentals (30+ days) receive significant discounts. See our full pricing guide.

The Toyota RAV4 is our most affordable option at $40–$60/day on self-drive. Weekly and monthly rates bring this down further from $35/day on weekly hire and $25/day on monthly. All rates include third-party liability insurance and unlimited mileage.

All rentals include third-party liability insurance, 24/7 roadside assistance, and unlimited mileage within Rwanda. Optional vehicle damage/excess coverage is available for an additional daily fee. Fuel, tolls, and parking are the renter's responsibility unless otherwise agreed.

Yes. All rentals within Rwanda include unlimited mileage at no extra charge. Cross-border rentals may have mileage terms depending on the destination we will confirm these when you book.

Fuel is not included. You receive the car with a full tank and return it full. Petrol stations are widely available in Kigali and major towns. In rural areas, stations are less frequent, so we advise filling up before leaving main roads.

No strict minimum we offer daily, weekly, and monthly rentals. However, one-day hires may carry a small surcharge. Airport transfers and city taxi services are available for single trips.

Requirements & Documents

Yes. Foreign nationals can rent a car in Rwanda with a valid driving licence and passport. If your licence is not in English or French, an International Driving Permit (IDP) is recommended. There is no requirement to hold a Rwandan licence for visits under 90 days.

You need a valid driving licence (international or from your home country), a passport or national ID, and a credit/debit card or cash deposit. If your licence is not in English or French, an International Driving Permit (IDP) is recommended.

Yes. Rwanda accepts most foreign licences for short-term visitors (up to 90 days). For longer stays, you may need to obtain a Rwandan licence or carry an International Driving Permit alongside your home licence.

You must be at least 23 years old and hold a valid driving licence for a minimum of two years. Drivers under 25 may face a young-driver surcharge for certain vehicle categories. There is no maximum age limit.

Self-Drive & Safety

Rwanda has some of the best-maintained roads in East Africa. Main highways between Kigali, Musanze, Huye, and Rubavu are tarmac and well-signposted. Driving is on the right-hand side. We provide a road map, route advice, and 24/7 phone support with every self-drive rental.

Yes. You can hire a car for self-drive or with a professional driver who speaks English and French. Many clients prefer a driver for safari trips and first-time visits, while repeat visitors and residents often choose self-drive.

All our vehicles come with 24/7 roadside assistance. If the car develops a mechanical fault, call our emergency line and we will arrange a replacement vehicle or on-site repair as quickly as possible usually within 2–4 hours anywhere in Rwanda.

Vehicles & Fleet

Our fleet includes Toyota RAV4 for city and upcountry travel, Land Cruiser V8 and Prado for safaris, Toyota Hiace minibus (8–14 seats), and Toyota Coaster bus (25–30 seats). All vehicles are well-maintained, insured, and regularly serviced.

Yes. For Volcanoes National Park gorilla trekking, we recommend a 4×4 such as the Land Cruiser Prado or Safari Cruiser. The roads to Musanze are tarmac, but the last stretch to park headquarters can be rough a 4×4 handles it with ease.

Absolutely. Our 4×4 fleet includes the Land Cruiser Prado, Land Cruiser V8, and Safari Land Cruiser all ideal for the drive to Volcanoes National Park. We can also provide an experienced driver-guide who knows the route and the park area.

A driver is optional for most vehicles. Self-drive is available on SUVs and 4×4s. Larger vehicles like the Toyota Coaster always come with a professional driver. Driver hire adds $30–$50/day depending on the trip.

Airport & Delivery

Yes. We offer Kigali International Airport (KGL) car rental with free delivery. Your driver or vehicle will be waiting at arrivals with a name sign even for late-night flights. Book at least 24 hours in advance for airport pickup.

Yes. We deliver your rental car to Kigali International Airport at no extra charge. We also deliver to hotels, offices, and any address in Kigali. Delivery outside Kigali (Musanze, Rubavu, Huye) can be arranged for an additional fee.

Cross-Border Travel

Yes. We arrange cross-border car hire to Uganda via Gatuna or Cyanika border crossings. We handle the vehicle authorization letter and Comesa third-party insurance. You will need a valid passport, yellow fever certificate, and a Ugandan visa (available on arrival or via e-visa).

Yes. Cross-border travel to Tanzania via the Rusumo border is permitted with prior arrangement. We provide the required vehicle documents and insurance. Allow at least 48 hours' notice so we can prepare the paperwork.

Yes, travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo is possible via the Rubavu–Goma border. A DRC visa, yellow fever certificate, and additional vehicle documentation are required. We arrange the cross-border paperwork on your behalf.

Yes, cross-border travel is permitted to Uganda, Tanzania, the DRC, Burundi, and Kenya with prior arrangement. Additional paperwork and a cross-border fee apply. Please inform us at least 48 hours before your trip.

Booking & Policies

You can book online through our website, via WhatsApp at +250 788 439 022, by email, or by calling us directly. We recommend booking at least 48 hours in advance, especially during peak season (June–September and December–January).

Cancellations made more than 72 hours before pickup are fully refundable. Cancellations within 24–72 hours incur a 50% charge. No-shows or same-day cancellations are charged in full. We understand plans change contact us and we will do our best to accommodate.
