Akagera National Park is Rwanda's only Big Five safari destination. The 155 km drive east from Kigali takes about 2.5 hours on good tarmac making it an easy day trip or a weekend safari.

The last major town before Akagera. Fill up on fuel and stock up on water and snacks. The RN28 turnoff to the park gate is just east of Kayonza.
