Kigali Genocide Memorial

A hallowed and peaceful resting place for over 250,000 precious souls, and a powerful tribute to remembrance, education, and reconciliation.

About the Memorial

A Place of Remembrance

The Kigali Genocide Memorial at Gisozi serves as a hallowed and peaceful resting place for over 250,000 precious souls. Established in 2004, it functions as both a tribute to those who were lost and an educational resource for understanding the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.

The memorial features an unfinished wall of names — a poignant reminder of the ongoing effort to identify and honour every victim. The memorial gardens provide contemplative spaces where visitors can reflect in quiet surroundings, surrounded by carefully tended green spaces designed to foster peace.

Beyond remembrance: The centre extends vital support to survivors, orphans, and widows across Rwanda's various memorial sites, ensuring that the living legacy of resilience and healing continues.
