A one-way rental means you drive from your pickup point to your destination and leave the car there -- our team collects it. This saves you an entire day of driving back, giving you more time to enjoy your trip. Available as self-drive or with a professional driver. A modest one-way fee covers the cost of returning the vehicle to our depot.

Top One-Way Drop-Off Routes

Kigali to Musanze

2.5 hours. The gateway to Volcanoes National Park and gorilla trekking. Drop off your car at your lodge and fly or transfer onward. One-way fee: $50.

Kigali to Rubavu / Gisenyi

4 hours via the scenic northern route. Arrive at Lake Kivu, hand over the keys, and spend your time on the water instead of behind the wheel. One-way fee: $70.

Kigali to Akagera

2.5 hours east. Drive to Akagera National Park for a safari, then leave the vehicle at the gate or your lodge. One-way fee: $50.

Kigali to Huye (Butare)

2.5 hours south. Visit the university town, the Ethnographic Museum, or continue to Nyungwe Forest. One-way fee: $50.

Kigali to Nyungwe Forest

5 hours via Huye. Reach the canopy walkway and chimpanzee tracking without worrying about the return drive. One-way fee: $80.

Kigali to Border Crossings

Drop off at Gatuna (Uganda), Rusumo (Tanzania), or Rusizi (DRC/Burundi). Ideal for travelers continuing overland into neighboring countries. Fee: $60-$100.

One-Way Car Rental — FAQ

You can drop off at any major town in Rwanda including Musanze, Rubavu, Gisenyi, Huye, Rusizi, Karongi, and at national park lodges. Border drop-offs at Gatuna, Rusumo, and Rusizi are also available. Tell us your destination when booking and we will confirm logistics and pricing.

The one-way fee ranges from $30 to $100 for domestic drop-offs, depending on the distance from Kigali. Cross-border drop-offs start from $150. This fee is charged once on top of your standard rental rate and covers the cost of repositioning the vehicle.

Yes, we require at least 24 hours' notice for one-way drop-offs so we can coordinate vehicle collection at your destination. During peak season (June-September, December-January), booking several days ahead is recommended.

Absolutely. Many clients prefer a driver for one-way trips, especially to Volcanoes National Park or Nyungwe Forest. The driver takes the car back after dropping you off, so there is no one-way repositioning fee -- you only pay the standard driver rate on top of the rental.

Call us as soon as your plans change. We will do our best to accommodate a different drop-off point. The one-way fee may be adjusted based on the new distance. Changes within the same region (for example, switching between lodges near Musanze) are usually free of charge.
